PhoenixMart and the Greater Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce was proud to have partnered with Market on the Move with a first time event held in Casa Grande on Saturday, March 29, 2014. For a $10 donation, each person who came through the Market on the Move was able to walk away with up to 60 pounds of fresh produce.
The Market on the Move is one of the service programs of The 3000 Club, providing 23-million nutritious meals of fresh produce and serving more than 480,000 families in need throughout the country. The 3000 Club in Arizona has developed relationships with produce brokers in Nogales and Phoenix, rescuing 30 million pounds of excess fresh fruits and vegetables. All donations from Market on the Move are used locally to support the food-rescue program of The 3000 Club.
At least 1000 people showed up to this first event that designed to share the abundance with other families. Helen Neuharth, Chamber President/CEO, said, “The response from the community was incredible for this first Market on the Move. We look forward to the next Markets on the Move scheduled for Casa Grande, as they provide a tremendous service to our local community, by making fresh produce available for a very affordable donation.”
Two more Market on the Move events are scheduled for this spring and will be held Saturday, April 26 from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and Saturday, May 31 from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. Both will be held at “City Gate” (known as the Outlets at Casa Grande), I-10 and Jimmie Kerr Blvd. – Exit 198 in Casa Grande.
